836-B8-002 The role of the United Fruit Company in the articulation of the Costa Rican South Pacific region

Objetivo:

To analyze the role of the United Fruit Company in the articulation of the Costa Rican South Pacific region.

Descripción:

Regional studies call our attention in respect to the elements that can define the particularities in the construction of regions such as economic, political, cultural and social projects (2008, Chen, Malavassi and Viales).

From this point of view there is an important bibliography that tells us about the construction of the Costa Rican South Pacific region from the establishment of the United Fruit Company in the Region. Plans, maps and other printed materials produced by the same company have been little used in our country because they are difficult to obtain or their loan is restricted. This research seeks to analyze the role of the United Fruit Company in the articulation of the Costa Rican South Pacific region. Based on this idea, the research aims to compile and present a collection of more than 500 copies of UFCo maps, plans and other documents to the national scientific community.

In this sense, the project seeks to make the most of the compilation of these documents, which will be cataloged and referenced in such a way that their use, as well as the information they contain, is easily accessible.
