836-C3-148 Relation, rhizome and codiphagia: towards a critical theory of Culture

Objetivo:

To examine the importance of relation, rhizome, and codiphagia, analyzing their contributions around the foundation, the nature, and the development of the cultural phenomenon, in order to explore the capabilities that emerge in both better understanding models, and the construction of a critical theory of Culture.

Descripción:

If there’s a concept that has received multiple definitions, approximations, and considerations, it’s the one of culture. And it is no mere contingency that its treatment has left a trail of attempts to comprehend it, as we find ourselves before a situation that could define the wealth, complexity, and distinction of humans. Many have been the routes social thinkers have taken to delimit the conceptual specificity of this phenomenon, although, what is certain is that, in one way or another, its problematic delimitation has not disappeared. And this seemingly trivial starting point (a vision of what culture is) intrinsically determines the comprehension that can be had over a multitude of phenomena and actualities. The relation with the other, the past, diversity, identity, and power, are all left inextricably linked to the particular comprehension of what the cultural reality is in each case. The consequence of taking this starting point for granted has often become the reason for ethnocentric perspectives, of supposed social or religious supremacies, or ultimately, concealed exclusive and discriminatory perspectives. This project is intended to, first of all, contextualize the historic debate which has been brought forward in human and social sciences on the concept of culture. This context will uncover the epistemic insufficiencies of many of these perspectives that don’t end up being capable of approaching the complex phenomenon that is culture. Once these deficiencies have been uncovered, a constructive interrelation will be proposed; involving various theoretical perspectives and approaches (anthropology, sociology, history, semiotics, philosophy) will allow an interdisciplinary and critical assessment of the phenomenon that is culture, using as reference three models that will help to more specifically visualize its full scope: relation, rhizome, and codiphagia.
