High-altitude Horticultural landscapes of the Central Volcanic Mountain Range of Costa Rica. Processes, dynamics, and improvement opportunities

Objetivo:

To analyze the territorial dynamics and processes that influence the horticultural landscapes in the height of the Central Volcanic Mountain Range, and the agrifood systems that shape it, with the goal of defining proposals for its management and improvement.

Descripción:

The research project consists on the characterization and analysis of the horticultural landscapes in the height of the Central Volcanic Mountain Range of Costa Rica, Irazú-Turrialba sector,  Poás and Zarcero, and the agrofood systems that these landscapes are made up of, from the active processes and dynamics in the territory. The goal of this study is to give proposals for adequate management and improvement of high-altitude agrifood systems given its value on food sovereignty and on the protection of natural resources and biodiversity in the borders of protected areas of the Central Mountain Range, in the context of climate change, as well as significant elements of horticultural landscapes of volcanic origin.
