Objetivo:

To design a conservation and recuperation strategy of the upper part of the micro-basin of the La Paz River that allows the establishment of preservation actions of the hydric resource, and the stopping of the deterioration of the wate’s quality in the area.

Descripción:

The micro-basin of the La Paz River, situated in Piedades Norte of San Ramón of Alajuela, is one of the many contributors of the Barranca River. Due to its location, and to the good conditions it still presents on its upper part, it can be considered an important source of multiple-use water in the area, something remarkable given that its part of the second most deteriorated basins of the country.

With this in mind, the project plans on contributing in the conservation and recuperation of the upper part of the micro-basin of the La Paz River, through the establishment of actions that preserve the hydric resource and stop the deterioration of the water´s quality in the area.

To accomplish this, the proposing of a strategy, along with local parties*, is established, that allows for short, medium, and long term conservation and recuperation of the upper part of this micro-basin.

(*) Social, political, and economical parties that can actively take part in the development process of the strategy. In this case, Fundación Elvira, Asociación de Desarrollo Bajo Arias - Calle Orlich, Asociación de la cuenca del río La Paz, Asociación de turismo La Paz, local farmers and habitants, Ministerio de Ambiente y Energía (MINAE), Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AyA), Municipalidad de San Ramón and the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG).
